MATERIAL

Produced by the Horween Leather Company, based in Chicago, USA since the early 1900s, Chromexcel leather takes 89 separate processes (many of which are completely by hand) and 28 working days to complete. It is full-grain, cowhide leather processed using a combination of chrome tanning and vegetable tanning. This unique process results in a leather that is durable, supple, and has a distinctive pull-up effect. ‘Pull-up’ refers to the lightening of the leather as it is flexed and pulled, resulting in gorgeous two-tone gradients across its surface. The desirable pull-up effect is due to the oils and waxes impregnated in the leather during production to be temporarily displaced effectively creating a lighter color on the surface.

This leather is often used in high-end leather goods such as shoes, boots, wallets, and belts. It is a popular choice among leather enthusiasts and is known for its longevity and ability to age beautifully with use.  Chromexcel will lighten, darken, scuff, soften and age in such a way that it looks vintage without the fragility.
